Every summer the Maplewood Rose Garden in northwest Rochester bursts with vibrant color as more than 300 varieties of roses come into bloom.

The one-acre garden is part of historic Maplewood Park between Lake Avenue and the Genesee River.
The nearly 3,500 rose bushes have captivated passersby since the garden opened to the public in 1951. Some varieties of roses tested at the garden were never commercialized, making them exclusive to this location.

The gardens can be enjoyed all summer long, especially in the peak months of June and September. Take the time to admire the ‘Julia Child’ and ‘Desmond Tutu’ roses as well as the many hybrid tea varieties such as ‘Ring of Fire’.
