Time to put a little ‘snap’ in your St. Patrick’s Day celebration. with these easy to make cookies that the whole family will enjoy – whether they are Irish or not. For an extra holiday treat, mix a bit of green food coloring in the icing before drizzling on the cookies.
Gingersnap Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Icing
- powdered sugar and water (green food coloring optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Cream sugar, egg, salt and shortening together. Add flour, baking soda and spices. Mix well.
- Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and roll the balls in sugar.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 5 to 6 minutes.
