Good news! May 29, 2020

Dear (585) Friends,

Hope you had a great week!

Tomorrow, SpaceX will reattempt its launch of two Americans into space—a first for a commercial aerospace company, and the first we’ve seen astronauts head to space in nearly a decade.

Here’s hoping that bit of excitement can draw us all together, as our shared experience working through this pandemic has.

We’ve compiled some recent community news below to keep you in the know. If you have content you’d like us to share or updates you’d like to see, please reply to this email with suggestions.

  • A virtual craft fair experience, ArtStream is bringing together more than 100 local artists, crafters, and businesses on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no cost for artists to participate, so proceeds go right into the artists’ pockets. Attendees can watch live streams of artist interviews, studio tours, and demonstrations, and purchases will be available for same-day or next-day delivery.

  • Newly reopened for curbside service, Lux Lounge is serving a full cocktail menu as well as canned and bottled beer from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Yellow Jacket Racing’s 46 Peaks Challenge tasks participants with completing the virtual ascent of all 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks over the course of 120 days, starting June 1. Complete one peak in a single workout or accumulate the elevation throughout the summer. $60 registration fee required.

  • Farmers Creekside Tavern & Inn in Le Roy reopened last week for curbside service, with orders available for pickup Thursday through Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. Menu items include fried chicken, rainbow trout, rib eye, and more. Family meals serving four, “Grill Your Own” entrees, and wine and cocktail options are also available.

  • Interested in starting your own food business? The Commissary, a downtown kitchen incubator that will be opening in September, is hosting a webinar on getting your permits and documents in order—whether you hope to join the Commissary as a member or launch a business in your own facility.

  • Thousands of original artworks are available for purchase during Rochester Contemporary Art Gallery’s virtual 6x6x2020 event. Art has been created and donated by international and local artists, designers, youth, and more to be sold for $20 each during the gallery benefit. All 6” by 6” art is signed only on the back, to be sold anonymously. The Virtual Opening Party & Artwork Sale is June 6, with global online purchasing beginning June 9.

  • Looking to kill some time, boost those brain cells, and learn about all the Finger Lakes area has to offer? Finger Lakes Visitors Connection, the official tourism promotion agency for Ontario County, is offering a virtual Finger Lakes Activity Guide for all ages and abilities. The Activity Guide includes crossword puzzles, word searches, mad libs, coloring sheets, connect-the-dot puzzles, and more.
