We hope you’re doing well and staying healthy!
Today, we savor the last full week of June–if you can believe it. Today also marks Phase 4 of the state’s COVID-19 reopening process, although it looks a bit different than we originally planned for. No movie theatres, bowling alleys, or gyms just yet.
But no worries: We’ve compiled a list below of local events to keep you busy this weekend and in the coming week.
- Load up the El Camino, or whatever gets you around these days, and pull into the ROC’N Drive-In Series. Double features are shown every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights for the next four weekends in the VIP Lot at Frontier Field. Thursdays are deemed “Date Nights,” and the weekends are for family flicks. This Friday and Saturday will feature How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Next Thursday, July 2, The Big Lebowski and This is Spinal Tap will show. Tickets are $25 per vehicle and concessions will be available (hamburgers, red hots, popcorn, nachos, ice cream, etc.)
- Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced this week that Monroe County Parks is now accepting reservations for park shelters and lodges—which will be tentatively reopening on July 1. Just in time for your Fourth of July picnics and small gatherings to celebrate the summer. Please keep in mind County and New York State guidelines related to social gatherings: As of today, events are limited to twenty-five people. And as of last week, Monroe County Dog Parks have also reopened.
- Sign up today for Homestead for Hope’s Fishing Derby. Prizes will be awarded for longest fish, heaviest fish, and smallest fish. Food trucks will be onsite, with items for sale under $10. There is a $5 cover, which includes worms, and participants are asked to bring their own pole. The community farm offers person-centered work programs, educational opportunities, and social and recreational events.
- Bring your masks, your signs, and your appetite for change to Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at 1 p.m. this Saturday. Free the People ROC is hosting Black Lives Matter, Stop Killing Us 4: Say Her Name, an event to bring visibility to Black women and girls who have been impacted by police brutality. The demand is to defund the police and reinvest in our communities instead.
- Rootstock Ciderworks in Williamson will be hosting Pig Roast at Rootstock this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m and will be roasting the meat onsite. Plates will include a sandwich, macaroni salad, and potato chips for $15. Wash that down with a craft hard cider or cocktails from the tasting room, and enjoy your meal on the covered patio or grab a meal to go. Purchase ahead of time or day-of—first come, first served.
- Enjoy live music, interviews, giveaways and more at 6 p.m. this Friday, June 26 with the Virtual ROC the Falls, a community festival that debuted in 2018. The event, presented by Genesee Brewing, Record Archive, and Rochester Podcast Network, will be hosted by Genesee Brew House Brewmaster Dean Jones, and feature live tunes by Teagan Ward, Amy Montrois, and Mochester. Genesee will be brewing a new, extremely limited, small-batch Black Raspberry Cream Ale just for the occasion, and Record Archive will be releasing limited-edition Record Archive/Cream Ale shirts to celebrate.
- Staff from the former Out Alliance, which recently and regrettably discontinued operations, have organized a march and rally for 1 p.m. this Sunday. The 1st Pride Was A Riot! LGBTQ+ Stonewall Anniversary March & Rally for #BlackLivesMatter will begin at the former Out Alliance location on College Avenue and march to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park. Don’t forget to bring your signs and your masks.
- The Empire State Road Trip highlights Chautauqua County, Finger Lakes Wine Country, and the 1000 Islands, and combines stays at Harbor Hotel properties in each region. Guests who visit two or more of the hotels on consecutive nights will receive a complimentary Road Trip Snack Cooler filled at each stop with surprises for the drive. The itinerary includes stops at local museums, state parks, castles, and more.
- What quarantine diet? Stop by Murph’s Irondequoit Pub this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for a not-to-be-missed Donut and Wing Pairing event, in partnership with Ridge Donut Café. Wing and donut flavors will include Maple Bourbon Bacon (real bourbon + bacon chunks), Nirvana (dry rub with a bite, topped with honey), and Firecracker (sweet at first with a spicy kick on its heels). Pair with a specialty drink like a Boozy Milkshake. Curbside pickup also available.
