Fire it up

The calendar is quickly filling up with holiday parties, from cheesy office gatherings (maybe the kind you’d rather skip) to black-tie dinners and all-night New Year’s Eve parties. ’Tis the season for holiday glitz, glamour, and three-dimensional sparkle, especially after a few years of “less is more” party dressing.

For something flashy, try Michael Halpern’s disco-inspired minidresses for Topshop. They’re guaranteed to sell out before your first glass of eggnog. If minis aren’t your thing, take a cue from Kate Middleton and try a midi dress in a classic polka-dot by Alessandra Rich. And who ever said the LBD has to be your boring backup? F.R.S (For Restless Sleepers) brings next-level black silk pajamas, or you can pick up Staud’s mod number for less than $200. There’s truly something for everyone this season. If you plan on bringing your sparkle out during daytime hours, make sure you have sunglasses on hand too.

Heavy metals
Those who favor the classics can’t go wrong with a shimmery silver or gold dress. At the moment, even playful rose-gold iterations are making appearances. To give your dress of choice a futuristic twist, style with matching metallic accessories.

Color rich
Sparkles and high saturation are not mutually exclusive when it comes to dressing up. This season, expect Italian label Attico to lead the pack with bold colors and lots of shine. If you’re ready to dress up and head out for a celebratory night on the town, you can’t go wrong with a lush splash of color.

Monochrome
For minimalists, sparkles may be a hard draw. Keeping the color palette to black and white can will tame a shimmery style. Whether you opt for a solid black or white dress or get a little graphic, you’ll stand out without straying too far from simplicity.
