Last weekend I had a pruning lesson from Bev Gibson at the Stone Tolan House. I wrote about it in yesterday’s paper. Here are some images from the day:
This is fire blight. It needs to be removed.

These are spurs, where the apples develop. Spurs can produce for more than one year. You want a lot of them.

As you can see by what’s left on the ground, quite a bit of each tree is removed every year. Controlled growth is key.
