We hope your July is off to a good start!
With Independence Day just around the corner, we’ve compiled a list of ways to celebrate—with events from Mumford to Webster.
- Celebrate the 4th of July on Railroad Street this weekend with Brews, Boocha, and Bloodys at Black Button Distilling. A beer truck from Rohrbach Brewing Company will be onsite, as well as Macarollin, a food truck famous for its gourmet mac and cheese. Bloody Marys from Black Button and mimosas from Katboocha will also be available. A $10 entry fee includes one alcoholic beverage, and all other purchases will be made separately. Guests under 21 are welcome, and masks will be required while standing.
- Genesee Country Village & Museum is reopening its doors to the public just in time for its Independence Day Celebration. This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can stop by to hear patriotic musical performances, play games, and picnic on the Great Meadow (bring a blanket!). The Depot and Freight House will be serving hot dogs, burgers, and more. Presale tickets for adults are $12.
- Nothing says “4th of July” quite like a good barbeque. The Blue Barn Cidery will be hosting a 4th of July Pig Roast, catered by Farmhouse Table Food, on Friday and Saturday. Plates will include a Kansas-style, half-pound, 12-hour smoked pork barbeque, as well as coleslaw, baked beans, and sweet honey cornbread. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available (or take your meal home), and the cidery’s regular menu will also be available.
- This Monday, let the stresses of our “new normal” melt away with Sunset Yoga in the Lavender at Wickham Farms in Penfield. Check in at 6:30 p.m. and stroll over to the lavender fields—about a 0.2 mile walk—where yoga with Nora Doebrich of Flower City Yoga will begin at 7 p.m. At the end of the class, relax in the fields, take some sunset photos, and cut some lavender to take home. Be sure to register in advance; tickets are $35.
- Another local favorite has reopened its doors! The Genesee Brew House will offer outdoor dining and takeout starting Tuesday, July 7. Reservations will be required for dining in the beer garden, on the balcony, and on the roof (newly opened for dining). Guests will only be allowed indoors to use the restroom. The Brew House’s new menu will include its most requested item: French fries!
- As of last week, public swimming at Ontario Beach Park opened for the season. Monroe County lifeguards are on duty, and swimming is permitted between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. The beachfront, restroom facilities, changing rooms, and playground are open to the public at fifty percent capacity. Beachgoers are asked to keep blankets and other personal items ten feet apart and maintain six feet of social distance at all times (except for members of the same household). - U-pick cherry season opens July 4th at Schutt’s Apple Mill, with u-pick red raspberry season already underway. Picking hours will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 3 to July 12. While you’re there, grab an Apple Frost–Schutt’s signature apple cider soft serve dessert. Buy one, get one free from July 9 to July 12.
