Gardenscape is coming back to the Rochester area after a five-year hiatus. The theme, “The Flower City Blooms Again,” is sure to encourage longtime fans—along with new ones—to spend a day or two smelling the roses. Location issues are what originally brought on that hiatus, but Gardenscape will return to the Dome on East Henrietta Road.
The Dome, which often hosts bands and other various events, will be transformed into a beautiful garden, helping attendees forget all about the melting snow outside by replacing grey slush with an array of beautiful spring colors. Sharlene Reeves of Birchcrest Tree and Landscape is helping lead the charge in bringing the fun and educational experience, which originally ran from 1992 to 2012, back into fruition. The event brings educators and vendors together in order to pass along their knowledge to the attendees and provide means for people to update their own personal gardens. Reeves summed up what Gardenscape means in two points: “It’s about getting ready to enjoy spring, but it’s also an opportunity where we can educate the public and show them some of the new trends that are going to be coming up in the future, as well as show off the gardeners’ skills and abilities so people can see what they are able to accomplish.”
Promoters are looking to keep the style of the event consistent with what it was in years past, ensuring that those who used to frequent will feel nostalgic as they walk from one display to the next. All of the educators will be local, and, along with local businesses, will be more than willing to share their specialties and what they’ve learned. Gardenscape will also feature a market area where you can purchase specialty items for your garden or things related to outdoor living. As in years past there will be a children’s garden, so families are encouraged to visit the event and create new memories from the returning Rochester tradition. The Community Place of Greater Rochester, a nonprofit, will put together and benefit from the opening night party on March 7. The show will officially open its doors to the public on March 8 at 9 a.m. Gardenscape runs from through March 11.
