Nick's Picks: Ray Lamontagne

Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Ray Lamontagne is bringing his “Just Passing Through” tour to the Kodak Center next Friday, October 12, at 8 p.m. He will be joined on bass by John Stirratt of Wilco.

For nearly fifteen years, Lamontagne has been a fan-favorite within the folk-rock scene for his warm, weathered voice and poignant writing. Over the course of his career, Lamontagne has released seven studio albums, six of which have landed on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart, including God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise, which won the 2010 Grammy award for Best Folk Album. He has also achieved mainstream success outside of his genre with songs like “You Are the Best Thing,” “Jolene,” and “Let It Be Me.”

Lamontagne comes to Rochester on the heels of his most recent album, Part of the Light, a personal, self-produced project that has been warmly received by critics. This record is highlighted by a diverse mix of up-beat whimsical tunes like “To the Sea” and songs like “Such a Simple Thing,” a meditative ballad that shows off Lamontagne’s vocal chops.
