Nick's Picks: Plate Night at Frontier Field

Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd, buy me some potatoes, and cheeseburgers, and mac salad, and meat hot sauce, I don’t care if I never get back, now let’s root, root, root for the Red Wings…

Ballpark cuisine is getting a remix tonight at Frontier Field. Rochester’s own Red Wings are changing their name to the Rochester Plates for one night as an ode to the 585’s favorite dish, which is celebrating its 100-year anniversary.

Along with the name change, Plate Night will feature new on-field caps and jerseys with a Garbage Plate design, in-game promotions, and a Nick Tahou’s trailer set up on the concourse serving the original Garbage Plate.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it’s clear that the best way to order a Garbage Plate is with two cheeseburgers, mac salad, home fries, and meat hot sauce, slathered in ketchup. If you disagree, I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. That being said, the exotic takes on the original plate from various concession stands at Frontier Field may be the most intriguing part of Plate Night.

The Red Osier Plate includes a seasoned baked potato, split and piled with Red Osier beef, covered in cheese, hot sauce, and diced onion.

Black Angus Grill is trotting out a plate creation that includes chicken cheese steak atop fries and mac salad, dressed with hot sauce, blue cheese, and diced onion.

Ice Cream Plus is even getting in on the action with a plate for fans with a sweet tooth. Their dessert plate consists of a cup of vanilla ice cream layered with brownie and chocolate chip cookie bites, topped with whipped cream and gummy worms.

The first pitch between the Rochester Plates and Norfolk Tides is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
