The newly renovated Dome in Henrietta, formerly the Dome Arena, will host award-winning indie rock band Foster the People this Friday, October 20.
The $8 million of renovations the Dome has undergone in the past eighteen months aims to bring this once popular venue back to prominence in the local entertainment scene.
Improvements to the Dome can be found all throughout the 25,000 square foot facility, including new concession and box office areas, backstage additions, increased seating, and a facelift to the outside of the building. Concert-goers can also look forward to new lighting and an interior that was built to provide the best possible acoustic experience.
Booking Foster the People fresh off the July release of their new album, Sacred Hearts Club, represents the Dome’s ambition to become a new hub for live music in Rochester.
The Los Angeles-based band first emerged on the national music scene in 2011 with their mega-hit “Pumped Up Kicks,” which went on to reach number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Pumped Up Kicks,” along with singles “Helena Beat” and “Call It What You Want” helped Foster the People’s first studio album, Torches, earn a 2012 Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
Following the release of Torches, Foster the People embarked on a months-long tour where they acquired a huge following thanks to hundreds of energetic live shows and a unique, upbeat, synth-filled, electro-indie-pop sound.
Foster the People then released Supermodel in March of 2014. As a result of their quick rise to stardom, Supermodel was a departure from Foster the People’s upbeat, poppy sound, and an entrance into a more mellow and in some cases more guitar-heavy sound. Supermodel dealt with existential themes and the perils of modern consumer culture.
Sacred Hearts Club, Foster the People’s latest album, combines the light, bubbly sounds from Torches and more intense, heavier beats. Thematically, Sacred Hearts Club takes a drastic turn from Supermodel and offers a more optimistic tone. Refined songwriting and impeccable production ultimately make Sacred Hearts Club a very enjoyable record.
Friday’s show at the Dome offers the opportunity to see one of music’s best live acts perform both new songs and classics in a modern, state-of-the-art venue.
