Every time little Carmen the Cover Model/Official Office Baby comes in, I will stop everything to hold her. Cuddling a baby in the middle of the workday when your head is swimming with deadlines and edits can calm one’s whole system. Suddenly my shoulders drop and my breathing slows, and I just cannot stop smiling. Now this doesn’t mean I want another baby. Nor am I ready for grandkids. But holding Carmen makes me remember the slow mornings when my kids were small. I don’t want to go back to that time, but I do wish I could hold my babies once more. We never really know when the last time we get to hold them is, do we? That day, that moment came and went without notice or fanfare. So when I bounce Carmen on my knee while filling out spreadsheets, I reminisce about doing the same with my own .
I hope you like this issue of (585) Kids, and I hope Carmen’s smile brings you a little extra joy today.
