This issue is a little bit of crossover from summer to fall. It’s still hot and muggy and sunny, but even if it is hard we are forced to look toward autumn. The kids will soon head back to school, and they will need supplies, shoes, new clothes, etc. Don’t forget about sports, theater, and a million other clubs they will want to join. Then there are music lessons, scouts, driving school, and college and job applications. It all seems exciting and new but can quickly turn to chaos. I know because I did it when my adult children were small. So, parents of young ones, don’t stress too much. This too shall pass. But don’t wish time away too quickly. As much as I didn’t love driving them all over and the complaints about homework and chores, I miss that time. They looked to my husband and me for guidance and love, and the lessons we all learned are valuable. I don’t want to get too maudlin or nostalgic, but when your “babies” are twenty-five and twenty-two you tend to get a little lost in the memories sometimes.
Here’s to those last, precious summer days and to a successful school year for everyone!
