Did you know that many birds cruise between 20 and 30 miles per hour (mph) and that the Peregrine Falcon can stoop ( which involves soaring to a great height and then diving steeply) at speeds of 200 mph? Even some butterflies have been clocked at over 30 mph. These birds and butterflies were faster than the first successful flight the Wright brothers made which was approximately 30 mph! Flying has always interested mankind and with today’s space shuttles hitting speeds of 17,500 mph just to remain in orbit, flight has never been more exciting!
So from birds, to all sorts of soaring and flying machines, here are our top pick to see things that fly!
