Winter Moon

Start your holiday season with music celebrating your holiday and learning about those of your neighbors with our “Winter Moon” program, on December 5 and 6. As nights get longer, a season of reflection settles in, an increased awareness of the moon with its reflected light, reassuring us of the sun that has grown scarce in the sky. Japanese composer Akemi Naito has adapted for us her “6 Poems for the Moon by Saigyo,” pondering the full moon’s night-long journey across the sky.

We sing sparkling favorites and intriguing music of the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, and Christmas sacred and secular, including carols from Lebanon and Georgia, and a fascinating newly commissioned work from one of our own singers, all graced with the noble sound of French horn. Styles range from funk to jubilant Renaissance counterpoint to beautiful lyricism, and we always end with ‘General Merriment!’ and post-concert refreshments.
