THIS IS A THREE-PART WORKSHOP HELD FROM 5 TO 8 PM ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 4; THURSDAY, AUGUST 13; AND TUESDAY, AUGUST 18. The workshop fee covers all three sessions.
If you’ve always wanted to start sketching scenes of streetscapes, landscapes, and buildings, this is the workshop series for you!
Class 1 (Tuesday, August 4): “Seeing Things from a New Perspective”
Students will learn about 1/2/3/5 point and curvilinear perspective. We will do some simple exercises in the studio, and practice these techniques with simple forms. We will end the course practicing these techniques on Main Street in Clifton Springs.
Class 2 (Thursday, August 13): “Historical Walk and Sketch”
We will be walking through Clifton Springs sketching some architectural and historical buildings within walking distance of the gallery. After a short demo at each location in conjunction with the Clifton Springs Historical Society’s Foster Cottage Museum Director, we will have a limited time to sketch, so a limited selection of tools will be used and encouraged! After the field-based sketching, we will spend some time back at the gallery adding some details and watercolor if desired.
Class 3 (Tuesday, August 18): “Sketching Urban Spaces”
Students will take the knowledge gleaned from previous sessions and put them to use on our final day. We will all be sketching from the same area, each student selecting their own perspective. There will be a short demo followed by a lot of time sketching. We will end with a small critique back at the Main Street Arts workshop space.
