New Horizons Jazz Ensemble
The New Horizons Jazz Ensemble (NHJE), founded and directed in 2018 by music teacher/ bandleader/ percussionist, Don Sherman, is a dynamic and energetic group of 19 musicians. The Ensemble plays a variety of jazz styles including Dixieland, Blues, Swing, Bebop, Latin, Rock, Funk, Afro-Cuban, Pop, Fusion and Contemporary arrangements. Also featured are comedic novelty pieces that encourage audience participation.The NHJE performs in a variety of venues including the Eastman School of Music’s prestigious Kilbourn Hall, Kodak Hall, the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Fairport Canal Days, the Gates Chili Community Annual Music Festival, the Jazz 90.1 WGMC Jazz Series, the Highland Park Jazz in the Bowl event, the Charlotte Harbor Festival and at several area high schools.

The repertoire is a very eclectic mix of straight-up jazz: Miles, Monk, Gershwin, Golson, Porter, Shorter, Silver, Rollins, Jobim, Ellington, just to name a few.
