Kazoo Factory, Museum & Gift Shop of Eden

An instrument that requires no expertise (and, arguably, no talent!), the kazoo is familiar to many people. But did you know that it was invented by a man named Alabama Vest? Or that it was patented in 1923? Or that in 2006 Rochester broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest kazoo ensemble? Discover all this and more at the Kazoo Factory, Museum & Gift Shop of Eden, NY.

Located an hour southwest of Niagara Falls, the Kazoo Factory was established in 1916. It originally manufactured sheet metal along with the famous instrument until the demand for kazoos became so great that the factory ceased all other metal operations. Now the only producer of metal kazoos in North America, the factory continues to manufacture them in the same way (and on the same equipment!) that it did nearly 100 years ago. Since it’s still in operation, visitors can witness kazoo production up close, either with one of the factory’s guides or via a self-guided tour.

Also, the factory now houses a museum devoted to kazoo history and facts where you can learn all about the instrument’s cultural significance, and check out the collection of kazoos of all ages, shapes and materials.

You can purchase a kazoo of your very own at the gift shop, but those looking to start their kazoo-ing career might enjoy the Make Your Own Kazoo Station, where visitors can assemble and take home their very own kazoo.
