Nick's Picks: Fast Forward Film Festival

A green tint will cover Rochester’s rich film culture this weekend at the Fast Forward Film Festival. Now in its fourth year, this eco-friendly event showcases short films with environmental themes that are made by Rochesterians.

The nineteen films selected for the festival will be shown April 13 at the Little Theater. On April 14, George Eastman Museum is hosting a Fast Forward gala with a green carpet, eco-friendly art, sustainable food and drinks, and an award ceremony. Edibles Restaurant is hosting a gala after-party with free drinks and appetizers.

While this event serves as a celebration of talented Rochester filmmakers, the films themselves serve as an uncomfortable reminder of the dangers of neglecting our environment and the perils we face if it continues. The Last Man on Earth, directed by Rhonda Parker, tells the story of an apocalypse brought on by climate change and one man’s search for signs of life. A Generation Rising, a film by Brenna Sherman and Liam Peterson, urges the younger generation to clean up the planet before it’s too late.
